3 Things You Can Do to Change Time

Last week I got caught up and binge watched all 3 episodes of Back to the Future. Crazy that 2015 was the future and here I am now...in the future.  What I loved about Back to the Future is that Marty Mcfly never gave up and fought anyone who came up against him in challenging his future, no matter what the obstacles were he faced it head on.

I certainly can't go back and change my past, but I sure can control the outcome of my future. So how can I do this?

1. My Timeline Review

This had me travel back in time and revisit my own timeline. Personally life is great, awesome wife and 4-year-old son, the check box is good there. Careerwise, however...WTF happened and how did I get here?
Get to college they said. Art college was great, best four years ever and my talent, the passion was on fire.  This fire, however, was soon to be extinguished.

You can be an artist, but have a backup plan they said. Backup plan? Good idea...nope.

1997-2007 I was a web designer teacher, color analyst, educational coordinator, arts and culture director. All jobs I liked but no money.

2008 hit and I lost my low paying, thankless job.

2009 "go back to school to get your Masters," they said.

2010- present  back to work in marketing and had to downgrade because jobs were scarce. And by the way..." hey pal, your lucky to even have a job".

Working for others has drained me, not just emotionally, but financially. The old days of 30 years, retire, gold watch, Florida and finally death is gone with the industrial economy. Super expensive Health Insurance kills me and student loans are even a bigger killer with no room for growth or opportunities because If you're too good at your job they want to keep you in that position.

Plus I have to depend on the gatekeepers to give me a salary and an opportunity to be successful.

2. Audit Myself

Yes, I audited myself.  If I want to go all in and leave my job I have to focus on my strengths, not my weaknesses.  Audit myself and figure out what makes me work the hardest. Take a step back and take a look at how I'm spending my time, what I'm good at and what I suck at, take action and make the major decisions and changes.

3. Be Transparent

The hardest of them all, starting with this post. Be transparent, make a decision and be completely exposed. The most successful people are transparent, I look at James Altucher's blog or Eminem's lyrics and think Zero Flux Given.
